If you needed another reason to provide safe routes for walking around schools, see the results of the Walking Classroom—on display in New Jersey and around the country.

Donna M. Rolando reports on the experiment known as the Walking Classroom, focusing on one example, located in Cliffside Park, New Jersey.
In Cliffside Park, the Walking Classroom is an after-school program provided by the local school district, "which combines brisk walks and podcasts on topics like the Battle of Gettysburg and Negro Leagues baseball," explains Rolando.
"The Walking Classroom has been provided to students in the district's after-school program through a five-year federal grant that runs out of money this year. There is uncertainty about whether the $525,000-a-year grant will be renewed."
The Walking Classroom is located throughout the country, with ten active school districts in New Jersey. The idea is to connect learning and exercise, which have been shown to benefit each other.
