Clearwater, Florida's beaches attract flocks of tourists, now the City Council is looking to drive those tourists away from cars and onto buses. A recent proposal to build out their bus service with a more routes and a new transit center was widely supported by the City Council, Tracey Mcmanus reports for the Tampa Bay Times.
Florida has not scored high marks for pedestrian safety and Tampa Bay (of which Clearwater is a suburb) ranks last or close-to-last among major U.S. cities in almost all measures of public transit service. Many have criticized the city’s lack of investment in transit and cited that lack of spending as a contributing factor in the state's dangerous streets.
