A controversy has erupted over a proposed vision for transit oriented mixed in a Denver suburb.

Joe Rubino reports from a suburb of Denver about a brewing development controversy: "A proposed change to Greenwood Village’s long-term development plan that could clear the way for major construction around the Orchard Station light rail stop has concerned residents, who are urging city leaders to put the issue in the hands of voters."
At issue is the draft Orchard Station Subarea plan, an amendment to the city's comprehensive plan that would enable $1.4 billion in development on 44 acres near the Orchard Station on the RTD's E and F light rail lines.
Opponents of the project cite traffic, view corridor, and school impacts in arguing for a referendum on the plan. The plan itself makes the case for the proposed vision as an example of transit oriented development and urban amenities that would set a new standard in the region.
