Expect a decision on how much the New York MTA plans to raise fares by January 2017.

Emma G. Fitzsimmons reports: "The price of a MetroCard swipe could rise by a quarter to $3 in March, officials at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced on Wednesday."
"The authority’s board is considering two proposals for a fare and toll increase of about 4 percent, on average, across the system’s trains, buses, tunnels and bridges," adds Fitzsimmons.
The latest fare increase would be right in line with the MTA's stated intention of raising fares every two years, though rising fares are facing under rising criticism as riders become frustrated with the crowded and frequently delayed state of transit service in the city.
