Pittsburgh has a new web-based portal for residents to track snow removal operations as they happen. It's the latest example of a city allowing public access to the details of city operations during snowstorms.

According to Michael Grass, a new system in Pittsburgh "allows anyone to remotely track the movements of public works plow trucks during a snow event."
Mayor Bill Peduto is quoted in the story saying it's the first time residents can track city operations in real time.
"The city has launched an all-encompassing snow website that not only hosts the online snow plowing tracker…but other snow-related resources, including the city’s snow-removal ordinance," adds Grass.
Grass also points out a recent article by the Associated Press about free mobile apps that allow residents to track snow removal operations in cities like Chicago, New York, Seattle, and more.
