An office complex where bus riders, carpoolers, bike riders and train users would get special treatment is inching its way toward approval in Broward County.
"With road-widening no longer considered a wise option in many cases, public transit is being looked to for diminishing traffic impact on already-clogged roadways...The developer will pay up to $100,000 a year, depending on how much of the project is built and how many car trips it is generating, into a transit management fund. The fund will be used to:Provide subsidies for 50 carpool riders;Subsidize 10 bicyclists a year;Encourage employers to allowed shorter work weeks and flexible work hours;Encourage telecommuting and give preference to tenants who allow telecommuting."
