With gas prices at an all time high, bike riding has never looked better. Shermans Travel identifies the top cities to bike through, noting a bounty of amenities to save on costs for the urban biker.
Recognized for their bike sharing programs, excellent rental shops, and supporting infrastructure, these ten cities topped Shermans Travel's list for the best bike cities across the U.S.
Austin, Boston, and Chicago top the list, which also includes Denver, Washington D.C., and St. Petersburg, Florida.
While Denver, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis and Washington D.C. have already established themselves with bike share programs, San Francisco, New York City and St. Petersburg will begin theirs this summer.
Katie Adamson of Visit Denver says that the 300,000 rides logged during the two-year (and counting) lifespan of Denver's bike-share program have translated into 13.5 million burned calories, a $990,000 savings on gas and parking, and 1.1 million pounds of greenhouse gases avoided.
