Graffiti has cropped up this year in metropolitan areas like Los Angles to smaller communities like Florence, Alabama. The rise in graffiti has prompted a debate that it may reflect that anxiety and alienation are growing from the recession.
Whether cities made cuts to their graffiti fighting programs or kept them intact, graffiti has persevered, Adam Nagourney reports for The New York Times.
"In Bernalillo County, which includes Albuquerque, graffiti complaints in June jumped to 300, from 84 in April.
" 'It just keeps coming up, little by little,' said Bobby Velasco, the county's graffiti supervisor. 'We've covered more this year so far than we did last year.' "
