New York City's Health Commissioner has urban design in his sights as he seeks to improve public health in the city.
Speaking recently at a transportation conference, Commissioner Thomas Farleyidentied urban design and transportation infrastructure as areas with a potential to greatly impact public health.
'"After quitting smoking, there's probably no behavior that promotes health more than regular physical activity,' Farley said. 'Okay, that's great. So what are we going to do about that? To me, the answer to that is thoughtful urban design and transportation infrastructure.'"
