Vallejo, CA, is a city that reflects a national trend. As the U.S. gets more racially diverse, its cities are getting more racially separated.

"Vallejo, a working-class town just below the rolling hills of California's wine country, is one of the nation's most racially balanced cities, according to the 2000 census; its population of 116,760 is 30.4 percent non-Hispanic white, 24 percent black, 26.1 percent Asian and 16 percent Hispanic. But Vallejo...also highlights another, more stubborn trend. Though the United States is more diverse than ever, it is also as racially separated as ever."
