The San Francisco Area's BART has decided to reject the proposal to sell naming rights of transit stations, while cities like Boston hope to take in $20 million from corporate sponsors.
"BART stations wrapped from top to bottom in ads for pill makers, dot- coms and other companies would be a thing of the past under a plan pushed yesterday by a BART director. The proposal by BART Director Tom Radulovich, who represents San Francisco, would also puncture a trial balloon floated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway to sell the names of its Market Street subway stations. Radulovich would prohibit BART, which owns the Muni Metro downtown stations, from selling station naming rights. . .Boston's Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is the first transit agency to try to extend the naming trend to public transportation. The agency plans to place corporate names on four of its downtown stations, a proposition officials figure could raise $20 million over five years, according to the Boston Globe. "
