New ways of modeling the health effects of smog have dramatically increased the number deaths estimated to be caused by smog every year in Ontario, Canada.
A new study by the Ontario Medical Association finds that smog will kill 5800 people this year, and will result in 17,000 hospital visits this year. If nothing is done to curb smog, the number of deaths per year will reach 10,000 by 2026.These estimated deaths are almost three times those in the last report by the Ontario Medical Association, on Smog. The Association says this is because they have developed better methods for calculating the cumulative, long-term health affects of Smog.
