Congress Avenue in Austin is undergoing a major renovation to receive bike lanes and upgraded pedestrian infrastructure.
Congress Avenue in downtown Austin is undergoing a major renovation to improve cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, My San Antonio reports. Known as the "Main Street of Texas" for its route to the Texas State Capitol, the renovation to Congress Ave aims to craft a "human-centric, multi-functional complete street with a clear and attractive identity," according to Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative documentation.
"The overhaul utilizes funding from the City of Austin's 2012 and 2020 bond programs, working in tandem with the Downtown Austin Alliance to reimagine the street from the Capitol complex down to Riverside Drive," My San Antonio writes. The project's first phase is currently underway and construction is being completed block by block.
