NJ Transit Steps in to Replace Bankrupt Bus Operator

The agency is using a new subcontractor to provide service in Hudson and Passaic counties after Coach USA declared bankruptcy.

NJ Transit will step in to continue service on some New Jersey bus routes after private operator Coach USA announced plans to cut service to 20 bus routes after filing for bankruptcy.

‘emergency bus service plan’ starting August 17 in Bergen and Passaic counties through operator Academy Bus. NJ Transit said riders will see no changes in schedules, fares, routes or bus stops on the Bergen, Hudson and Passaic county lines when the changeover occurs.”

Coach USA’s bankruptcy follows the retreat of other U.S. intercity bus lines. “Last year, NJ Transit had to take over routes formerly operated by DeCamp Bus Lines, A&C Bus Company, TransDev as well as some Coach routes.”
