Smart growth advocates are not taking seriously the impact of failing urban schools on sprawl.

"Sprawl is a product of suburban pulls and urban pushes. Families move to the suburbs for newer housing, open space, nearness to suburban jobs - and better schools for their children. The connection between schools and sprawl is obvious, yet Smart Growth advocates have not taken it seriously", writes Howell S.
