The new lane will let riders travel between the two cities in a protected bikeway designed to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

A new bikeway connecting Jersey City and Hoboken is now complete as part of the two cities’ Vision Zero plans. As Steve Lenox reports on TAPintoJerseyCity, the curb-separated lane features flexible delineators and an Endurablend surface.
“Since 2021, bike riders have taken more than 180,329 rides between Hoboken and Jersey City, representing13 percent of total ridership,” Lenox writes. The two cities also launched a bikeshare system in collaboration with Citi Bike last year.
The bikeway “runs from Marin Boulevard and Henderson Street with connections from 18th street in Jersey City to Observer Highway in Hoboken.” As Lenox points out, “The protected bikeway is not the only improvement made, the project also has improvements for pedestrians and drivers such as painting of high-visibility crosswalks and new extended turn lanes onto Newark Street and Observer Highway in Hoboken.”
