A private group of bike activists have, with the city's permission, installed five miles of bike lanes in New Orleans. The "Connect the Crescent," project went onto the road very quickly, without being painted on. "The bike lanes are being constructed using high-grade pavement tape (meant to least up to a year), green paint and plastic bollards," Angie Schmitt reports for Streetsblog USA. The activists and volunteers involved in the project hope the lanes will influence decision-makers who have the power to make these lanes permanent.
