New York City is making progress on its $11 billion rebuild of the Midtown Bus Terminal. A deck over a section of the Lincoln Tunnel entrance will be done by the middle of next year, and will house buses while the city demolishes the original terminal. When the city finishes construction, it will turn the deck into a 3.5 acre public park, Ramsey Khalifeh writes for Gothamist.

“The decision to add greenspace to the neighborhood was in large part prompted by demands from local community boards to improve living conditions around the terminal, said Steve Plate, the Port Authority's chief of major capital projects, who’s overseeing the rebuild. The facility, which is used by as many as 600 buses per hour, is among the busiest bus terminals in the world,” Gothamist reports.

The city expects to reveal the new park and terminal in 2035. The early phases of building the park space will likely bring disruptions to commuters, as the city will have to reroute buses around the terminal.
