A new research brief argues that strategies for placing public transport at the heart of leisure and tourism mobility need to be developed.
"Over the past 20 years, tourism and leisure have become an increasingly important part of our lives. Consequently, the demand for tourism and leisure travel has grown significantly. This change in mobility patterns represents a real opportunity for public transport. To make the most of this opportunity, strategies for placing public transport at the heart of leisure and tourism mobility need to be developed. The new UITP Core Brief entitled 'Leisure and tourism: An opportunity for public transport' examines how public transport can improve its share of the leisure and tourism market, and what benefits such an increased market share can bring. It also provides a summary of the results of a survey on public transport for leisure and tourism purposes, which was conducted on 22 public transport companies across Europe."
