Sometimes small additions can make a big difference when it comes to bike infrastructure.

David Meni reports on the newly constructed contraflow bike lanes on N Street NW, just north of Thomas Circle in Washington, D.C. Though the new lanes only stretch for two blocks, writes Meni, "they provide valuable new options for travelling east-west in this part of downtown."
According to Meni, these new contraflow lanes enable low-stress connections to the NoMa metro and to the M Street protected bikeway. They are also only the latest examples of new contraflow lanes popping up around the District—such as the contraflow lanes installed in 2014 on G and I streets NE.
