The El Paso City Council approved a $100 million SmartCode development.
The Northpark TOD is the second SmartCode project in the city and will create a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-used, and sustainable development with housing, office, and retail, reports Diana Washington Valdez.
"Under the proposed agreement that the City Council will consider today, the city will lease the property to the developer, who will have the option to purchase parts of the projects during the agreement period. The El Paso Water Utilities Public Service Board will have a key role in the project because of extensive renovation required for the Diana drainage channel."
El Paso's SmartCode is a form-based code that, according to the city documents describing the code [pdf], "provides the process and the regulatory framework to create neighborhood centered urban development."
