"Begun three years ago using a $1 million grant from the Turner Foundation as well as grants from the National Science Foundation and other agencies, the first phase of the Georgia Land Use Trends project was aimed at creating a series of highly detailed maps of the state showing land-use changes between 1974 and 1998. The maps are created using data from satellites, which not only record images in both visible and infrared light from orbit, but also record thermal images -- heat... The first maps -- the 1998 series -- are now available to anyone over the Internet from a page at the Institute of Ecology's Web site (http://narsal.ecology. uga.edu)."
