Some call it “Minnesota’s Main Street,” but Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis has been the subject of much debate as the city mulls a redevelopment plan for the mall designed by James Corner Field Operations.
In response to recent criticism of the costs of a proposed redevelopment of Nicollet Mall, Thomas Fisher makes an impassioned plea for the importance of the future of the mall to the future of Minneapolis.
Says Fisher: “If we want Minneapolis and indeed our entire region to thrive in the future, however, we can’t afford not to do this project.” Moreover: “We need to see the redevelopment of Nicollet Mall in this light, as a way of helping the city and this region compete in the new economy.”
In support of the proposed redevelopment, designed by James Corner’s Field Operations and with an estimated cost of $50 million, Fisher argues that a redeveloped Nicollet Mall will provide experiences that no suburban mall can reproduce.
