Bill Encourages Public Transit, Car-pooling

A Massachusetts bill proposes tax breaks for businesses that encourage employees' use of public transport and car pools.

"The legislation would provide expanded tax breaks to businesses offering benefits such as subsidized MBTA passes and van pools to reduce the number of employees who drive to work...State law currently provides some limited tax incentives to encourage use of alternative transportation...significantly broaden those tax incentives, providing a corporate excise tax credit of up to 30 percent for a range of employer-sponsored transit programs."
