As 84 percent of the evicted leave the city, even the once affordable East Bay can be out of reach as the chain reaction spreads. Some artists are going to Los Angeles?and reporting that its expansive, available space makes the sprawl Northern Californians once loved to hate strangely pleasant. Meanwhile the dot-com economy seems to be deflating, but the effect on real estate has yet to arrive as landlords continue to ask for higher prices.
