The prime Long Beach, CA waterfront project is 2 years behind schedule. But the city has given the builder another extension.

The $100-million entertainment and retail center in Long Beach is two years overdue on ground breaking. Still, the City Council voted to give the contractor another 15 months to get started. Penalties have been written into the extension, and the city can still court back-up offers from other builders. Opponents to the project see this as just another shopping mall and not the unique waterfront attraction that was originally promised.
