The weeklypublication looked at the gridlock bedeviling Chicago's O'Hare Airport andconcluded that it threatens to cost the Chicago area up to $10 billion ayear in lost activity ranging from business meetings to corporateinvestment. The article adds that the airport's reputation as a good placefrom which to do business is suffering because of an estimated $3 billionlost last year in time and expenses. Chicago is also is losing its share ofthe passenger market, with O'Hare passenger volume growing at justtwo-thirds the national rate in the past four years. The number of peopleboarding planes has reportedly fallen two years in a row. Proposals to add anew O'Hare runway and build a third regional airport at Peotone have beenpolitical hot potatoes for years.
