Prototype Inner-City Park Opened In L.A.

It's called Natural Park, but everything in the 8 1/2 acres came from somewhere else. It opened in South-Central L.A.

Nature has been re-created in the heart of South-Central L.A. The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy rents this former water and sewer pipe storage yard for $1 a year from DWP. They spent $4.5 million and brought in dirt, trees, rocks, chapparral, sage, and heritage oaks from all over Southern California. The mountain-like setting is a prototype for future urban parks.
