The California EPA is establishing new criteria with which to assess state environmental programs and create a standard environmental evaluation.
The California Environmental Protection Agency is establishing new criteria with which to assess state environmental programs in efforts to create a more comprehensive and universal methodology of evaluation among differentdepartments and boards. Each Cal/EPA board and program had formerlyestablished its own criteria of evaluation, usually based upon oneenvironmental medium, such as air or water. The new plan includes thedevelopment of a set of environmental indicators that will allowscientists, regulators, and the public to better comprehend the state ofthe environment and the effectiveness of the Cal/EPA Programs. TheOffice of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) will take thelead in the development of the new system, with the initial set ofindicators established by August 2001.
