"Combined with the expansion of the Disney resort - a new theme park, entertainment area and hotel - Anaheim has been busy transforming into a tourism and convention mecca to the tune of $4.2 billion in public and private money. If numbers are a measure of potential success, tourism officials hope to lure 1.25 million conventioneers annually, up 25 percent from the roughly 1 million people the center averaged before the expansion began about 40 months ago. Orange County spending by conventioneers is expected to rise to $1.75 billion annually from the roughly $1 billion average in the pre-construction years."
