HUD Stalls LA Cornfield Project

HUD is withholding $12 million from the Los Angeles Chinatown Cornfield industrial development until an environmental impact report is completed.

Environmentalists, residents and some local groups claim victory in seeing the Cornfield project halted. Opponents of the plan cite the need for schools, parks and housing. The city's planning committee waived the need for a report to speed the process. HUD's financial assistance is required in order for the project to procede.
