Governor Davis signed a bill to purchase 19,000 acres of salt flats south of the San Francisco Airport for $25 million.

San Francisco officials are hopeful that Davis' authorization to purchase the salt flats south of the S.F. airport will enable them to fill in part of S.F. Bay and add more runways to the busy airport. Davis said that returning the salt flats to a more natural state will improve the health of S.F. Bay.
