The auto group is lobbying against a Pennsylvania program that would reduce vehicle emissions.
"Three million Pennsylvanians belong to local Automobile Association of America (AAA) clubs...Chances are they don't realize their membership dues are going toward an effort to weaken Pennsylvania's vehicle emission standards. The Pennsylvania AAA Federation is lobbying against the state's Clean Vehicles Program, meant to reduce the air pollution problem plaguing Philadelphia and 36 other counties in the state."
"During a Dec. 13 Senate committee hearing, Pennsylvania AAA Federation executive director Ted Leonard testified that adoption of the California [National Low Emission Vehicle] LEV program would dig into the pockets of Pennsylvania residents, and ultimately harm the state's economy. Consumers would also be restricted in vehicle choice, as dealers would be able to introduce only California LEV certified cars, he testified."
