A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order that bars the Trump administration from withholding $34 million in federal transit security funding from New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), reports Chris Wade in The Center Square.

The funds were requested from the Transit Security Grant Program. “The ruling Wednesday by U.S. District Court Judge Lewis A. Kaplan invoked the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks granted New York's emergency motion for a temporary restraining order to stop the cuts.” The administration has also cut nearly $80 million from NYPD counterterrorism efforts.

According to Wade, “Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul called the defunding of the state’s mass transit security program ‘political payback and an attack on New York and its residents’ that will have an ‘immediate’ impact on public safety.”
