Sacramento library card holders will be able to check out e-bikes and electric trikes at four local library branches, reports Ariane Lange in The Sacramento Bee.
The program is funded by the city and a grant from the California Energy Commission, with bikes donated by Jibe. Bike borrowers must provide a government-issued ID and proof of address. Bikes include a lock and key, batter, and wall charger.
E-trikes can improve mobility and make biking accessible to a wider range of people including seniors and people with mobility impairments. The program exemplifies yet another way that public libraries serve as key civic hubs that offer a range of services beyond books.
