The rental giant is replacing the electric vehicles with gas-powered cars, signaling a setback for the EV industry.

Car rental company Hertz is selling off its fleet of electric vehicles, reversing its efforts to bring in more EVs, report Nathan Gomes and Joseph White for Reuters. “Hertz will instead opt for gas-powered vehicles, it said on Thursday, citing higher expenses related to collision and damage for EVs even though it had aimed to convert 25% of its fleet to electric by 2024 end.”
The decision highlights a concerning decline for electric vehicles as reduced government incentives, concerns about range, and unexpected costs are slowing down sales. Meanwhile, the federal government is supporting electrification in other ways, primarily through funding the development of a more comprehensive nationwide EV charging network.
