YouTube channel B1M takes a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula to examine the risks and the opportunities of Tren Maya—a $10 billion railway under construction to connect the south and southeast corners of the country to tourist destinations.
Mexico is constructing a $10 billion railway across the Yucatan Peninsula and through the five southern states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo called Tren Maya.
The 948-mile-long rail line is divided into seven sections built in two phases, eventually stopping at a total of 29 stations to connect major tourism sites, beaches, and hotels. The project is extremely controversial, however, for its impacts on the jungles, natural areas, and historic-cultural sites of the country.
