The eviction moratorium put into effect by the CARES Act, applying to residents in public housing authority and Housing Choice Voucher programs, is set to expire later this month.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson recently announced the “Eviction Prevention and Stability Toolkit,” which is intended to assist Public Housing Authorities (PHA) and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) landlords in planning and implementing strategies that keep families stably housed during the pandemic.
The press release announcing the new toolkit acknowledges that the eviction moratorium for residents of government housing programs enabled by the CARES Act is set to expire on July 25, and the toolkit is expected to provide support to "mitigate economic hardships" after the moratorium expires.
"The toolkit is composed of a PHA best practices guide, tenant brochure with tips to avoid eviction, HCV landlord flyer to encourage engagement with tenants before the moratorium expires, and repayment agreement guidance in addition to sample documents to provide increased clarity for landlords and renters utilizing the resources," according to the press release.
