Birmingham, Alabama is buying 15 new buses to run on a planned bus rapid transit route.
According to Mayor Randall Woodfin, Birmingham has agreed to purchase 15 new buses for a new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the city. "The new transit system is still in the planning phases, but once completed, officials say it will provide faster transportation and connect 25 neighborhoods," reports Jack Helean.
These buses will be part of a planned "Birmingham Xpress" service and will cost the city $602,500 each. Mayor Woodfin said the plan aimed to improve timeliness and speed of public transit in the city.
