The Low- or No-Emission (Low-No) Grant program has awarded funding to encourage the "deployment of transit buses and infrastructure that use advanced propulsion technologies."
"The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has selected communities to receive nearly $84.5 million in funding for transit projects through the Low- or No-Emission Grant program," reports Katie Pyzyk.
The FTA announced the funding in a press release, which highlights the funding allocations for Broward County Transit in Florida, the Transit Authority of Lexington (Lextran) in Kentucky, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Rural Electrification Initiative.
According to Pyzyk, the funding will be spread around 52 projects in 41 states. "With few exceptions, the FTA funding is going toward new battery-electric buses and charging infrastructure, although some is going toward other things like training or upgrading facilities," according to Pyzyk.
