After Rash of Pedestrian Deaths, Texas Looks to Create Safety Initiative
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) launched a "Be Safe. Drive Smart" campaign to respond to a rash of pedestrian deaths in the state. In 2018, 632 pedestrians were killed in Texas, with the largest share of deaths happening in San Antonio. The campaign urges drivers to slow down, put phones away and obey the laws. The campaign also asks for pedestrians to use caution, especially after dark.
