Fixed route bus ridership in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois has gone up for 13 consecutive months.
Bloomington-Normal, Illinois is growing transit ridership even while cities around the country are losing riders. Connect Transit, which serves both cities, attributes the growth in ridership to improved frequency and better on-time performance. Officials from the operator also say they have seen improvement in ridership as a result of updating their bus routes in 2016.
Whatever the reason, 2018 marked the third highest ridership rates in the cities' history, and Connect has enjoyed 13 months of ridership growth on its fixed route bus service. "In the last decade, Connect Transit passenger trips have increased 75.92%," Charlie Schlenker writes for WGLT radio.
