Manufacturers of electric bicycles, also known as pedal-assisted bikes and e-bikes, could be next on the Trump Administration's list for tariffs.
"President Trump’s escalating trade war with China poses a threat to the burgeoning use of e-bikes in the U.S.," reports Angie Schmitt.
"The next round of tariffs from the White House takes aim at Chinese manufacturers of e-bikes and e-bike motors, which are on a list of hundreds of products that could be subject to a 25 percent impost tax," according to Schmitt.
If implemented, the tariffs could impact individuals who use e-bikes for work as well as bike share companies. A source from the North American Bike Share Association tells Schmitt that the industry had expected 2018 to be the "year of the e-bike share revolution."
Schmitt also shares information about the organizations working to oppose the tariffs.
