Software developer Todd W. Schneider has created a DIY visualization of travel speeds of Citi Bike relative to taxis in New York City. In Schneider's own words, "I’ve built an interactive guide that shows when a Citi Bike is faster than a taxi, depending on the route and the time of day." Schneider has made the code used to build the guide available on GitHub.

Among the findings produced by Schneider's guide: "40% of weekday taxi trips—over 50% during peak hours—would be faster as Citi Bike rides." The post includes a lot more specificity, and the point is made so clearly that Schneider's work has already been picked up Gothamist.
