Chongqing train station has become famous in China for its extremely isolated location, but its construction illustrates the ambition of the country’s building spree.
Outside the city of Chonqing sits a train station so little-used that weeds grow over the steps and no road meets some of its exits. According to those who work there, the gleaming, modern station gets few riders. "Chongqing is clearly a city in a hurry," Maggie Hiufu Wong writes for CNN.
As many have argued, American and Chinese infrastructure ambitions appear to point in opposite directions. While American communities seem slow to maintain or improve, existing infrastructure China is rapidly building out its infrastructure in anticipation of future growth.
