This summer, the Port Authority of Allegheny County will implement a long-expected plan to go cashless on the T light-rail system.

"Port Authority [of Allegheny County] released its new fare enforcement policy Friday that will be implemented this summer when the light-rail system goes to a cashless fare system," reports Ed Blazina.
"Under the policy, Port Authority police officers will use special machines to check ConnectCard or single-fare vouchers for riders in a designated platform area to be set aside for paid riders or on the vehicles themselves," adds Blazina.
The cashless transition has been in the works for year—announced at the same time as other changes, implemented earlier this year, designed to make Port Authority transit easier to use.
