As local council opposition to an expansion of Heathrow Airport grows, London's Mayor Sadiq Khan has voices his support for legal challenges to the proposed plan. The BBC reports that the Mayor, who is also chair of Transport for London, is backing joint legal challenges from a number of councils and Greenpeace on the basis that the addition of a third runway at Heathrow will increase air and noise pollution for residents around the airport. The expansion has been pushed by proponents as being good for business - helping "London thrive as a global hub for talent, tourism and trade."

Mayor Khan has asked Transport for London to provide further study of the potential impacts from the airport expansion.
