Portland's forthcoming bikeshare system, now dubbed Biketown, will be expanded from its original scale as a result of the support of the corporate giant.
Elliot Nijus reports: "Nike has signed on to sponsor Portland's forthcoming bike-rental program, which it's calling Biketown."
"The company will pay $10 million over five years in exchange for the right to put its Swoosh logo and signature orange color on the bicycles that will crisscross the central city when bike-share launches in July, as well as kiosks, racks and promotional materials," adds Nijus.
The corporate sponsorship will allow the Portland bikeshare program to expand from 600 bicycles to 1,000 bicycles. New territory, yet to be determined, is also among the benefits of the arrangement.
