Sarah Kliff shares a map of the U.S. turkey inventory created by Twitter user @MetroMaps. "It reveals that America has something of a 'Turkey belt,' which runs from Minnesota down through Arkansas. There's also an especially dense outpost of turkeys in the Carolinas, with North Carolina boasting a slightly larger turkey population than South. And then there is Utah, all by its lonesome self with the largest turkey population in the American West." In effect, the map shows which states have more turkeys than humans. Something to think about as you even the odds on Thanksgiving and, presumably, for several days following.

Kliff notes also that the country's turkey population is in decline after a peak in the year 2008.
