An estimated 1,500 food carts were operating in the city of Chicago—mostly outside the law. The Chicago City Council this week passed a law that allows legitimate operations.
"The Chicago City Council passed an ordinance today regulating the city's food carts," reports Ally Marotti. " The ordinance passed today sets standards for where food can be prepared, regulates hygiene and sets guidelines for food cart storage."
Proponents of the new law claimed that legalization of food carts would provide a long-term economic boost to the city.
